Village Gossip, A Whisper from Idyllic

There is something rather lovely about discovering little pockets of calm hidden in plain sight in our village. Today my wandering feet took me into Idyllic in the centre of Cranleigh, and I must say, dear readers, it felt rather like stepping into another world.

The moment the door opened the scent met me first, sweet peonies, delicate orange blossom, the sort of fragrance the Tea Rose would adore. I breathed it in slowly and felt the stress melt away. “Me time,” I whispered quietly to myself, something we do not allow often enough.

As my pedicure began I noticed something comforting, the sound of laughter floating through the rooms. Not loud or busy, just gentle kindness, the sort of chatter that makes you feel instantly at ease.

My lovely therapist Jade carefully tended to my toes until they looked delicately perfect. She spoke warmly throughout and made me feel completely comfortable. Sabrina had done my nails for me the other day and she was absolutely superb. I am already looking forward to returning for a deep tissue massage with her extraordinarily strong fingers. Anyone carrying the weight of the week in their shoulders should book with her immediately.

Jade kindly showed me around the spa and I was quite taken back by the size of the place. From the front windows you can watch village life passing by along Cranleigh High Street, people wandering in and out of shops, locals greeting each other as they always do. Yet walk further inside and upstairs and suddenly you find a tranquil relaxation room, where delicate tea is served and the mind can finally rest.

Now here is where the gossip becomes rather interesting.

Harriet shared a little of the building’s past with me, and it turns out the structure reaches back far further than one might imagine. Cranleigh High Street has been a centre of village life since the medieval period, when it was already a thriving market village. Many of the buildings we see today began as timber framed houses and coaching properties in Tudor and Elizabethan times, the era when Shakespeare himself was writing his plays.

Over the centuries the buildings were extended and reshaped as shops and businesses grew along the High Street. Standing inside Idyllic you can almost sense those layers of history beneath the calm modern spa, generations of villagers passing through the same doorway, sharing stories, laughter, and perhaps the occasional secret or two.

It gave me a rather lovely feeling imagining how many conversations this building has quietly listened to over the centuries.

Naturally our conversation also turned to beautiful skincare products, something I always enjoy discussing, and the joy of using the very best treatments to care for ourselves.

I must say I truly loved the Idyllic experience. The space is beautiful, the therapists warm and welcoming, and the sense of history quietly lingering in the walls makes it feel even more special. For a moment it feels like a countryside spa hidden inside our busy little village.

So here is a small whisper of village gossip for you. If you feel tired, overwhelmed, or simply in need of a little peace, Idyllic has some spaces this weekend.

Perhaps a busy mother may wish for a quiet hour in the relaxation room. Perhaps someone simply needs to sit with a cup of tea and breathe.

Step inside, let someone take care of you, and enjoy a moment of calm.

After all, even in Cranleigh, we deserve a little indulgence now and then.
