A Quiet Visit to the Hair Boutique
There are moments in village life that feel wonderfully simple.
Today was one of them.
I wandered into a local hair boutique hoping — rather optimistically — that someone might have time to wash and trim my hair. No appointment, no online booking confirmation, just a hopeful smile and a slightly desperate fringe.
To my delight, they welcomed me in without hesitation.
You might say I could have washed my hair at home, but that wasn’t quite the point. Sometimes it is the quiet luxury of someone else gently massaging your scalp while warm water runs through your hair. The calm chatter of local gossip in the background. The familiar rhythm of scissors snipping while the world slows down for half an hour.
The ladies in the shop were kind, cheerful and clearly very experienced. There was no rush, no impatience — just that reassuring feeling that they truly know what they are doing.
And it made me realise something.
Perhaps they are not praised enough in our little town.
So today, I thought I would say it.
A small act of kindness and good customer service can completely change someone’s day.
Many places now will only see you if you have booked weeks in advance online. But today I experienced something rather rare — a touch of old-fashioned hospitality.
It lifted my mood entirely.
I left feeling lighter, hair neatly trimmed, spirits restored, and quietly grateful.
I do hope the ladies enjoyed their chocolates today.
I shall keep my identity secret for now — but I will most certainly be returning for my highlights.
After all, a little kindness goes a very long way in village life.
