Original glass feeder with original illustrated box and internal cardboard insert. Age-related wear to the box consistent with its age. No nipple attachment as they were very much worn out over time.
The History
Allen & Hanburys was founded in London in 1715, beginning as a small apothecary before growing into one of Britain’s leading pharmaceutical manufacturers. Over the centuries, the company became well known for producing medicines, infant foods, feeding equipment and medical supplies, earning a trusted reputation among doctors, nurses and hospitals.
During the late Victorian and Edwardian periods, infant mortality was a major public health concern. Many feeding bottles were difficult to clean and could harbour harmful bacteria. In response, manufacturers such as Allen & Hanburys developed simpler glass feeding bottles that could be sterilised more effectively, helping to improve hygiene for bottle-fed babies.
The Allenburys’ Feeder became part of the company’s wider range of infant care products, alongside its famous Allenburys infant foods. By combining improved bottle design with nutritional products, the company played an important role in advancing infant feeding practices in Britain.
